"Veena Conference"

Veena is one of the "trayee vaadya - Veena Venu Mridang " mentioned in Vedas. Every thing traditional in the realm of performing arts and cultural traditions of India goes back to Vedic times. It is believed that musical instruments of today's India are originated in Indian subcontinent and have been used as accompaniments to the recitation of Vedas. Music and Musical instruments go hand in hand to form a fundamental milieu of cultural thought.

Karnatic Music teachers, and artists of Greater Chicago land area , brought our rich musical heritage almost to every ones door steps by establishing teaching centers, mentoring students and show casing their artistry.

Sri Annamacharya Project of North America SAPNA, in collaboration with India Classical Music Society ICMS has been investigating the many dimensions of this divine instrument by presenting annual Festivals, Seminars, panel discussions and performances with a hope in mind to stimulate further reflections in to Music.

Objective is to restore the intrinsic wholeness and sensitivity of arts in all of us. SAPNA organized First Veena festival in 2009 concentrating on the concept of "raaga". The second Veena Festival is planned to devote on the specific component of " laya and taala'( rhythm and meter in Karnatic music). It is hoped that these efforts evoke keen interest , not only in Musical instruments but Music as a whole.
